Instead, a violet tear ripped through the sky above Manhattan. He felt the pull before he saw it—a gravity well dragging him toward the impossible light. Beside him, Officer Maza reached out, her grip firm against the wind that howled like a chorus of ghosts. Together they stepped into the void, leaving the skyscrapers behind for an island shrouded in mist and waiting magic.
